If there is one thing that pop-punk trio Inner City Elegance knows well, it is life on the road. The Toronto-based trio, comprised of band members Bruno Rodrigues on guitar and vocals, bassist Justin Parsons and drummer Spencer Kathrens, estimates that they have been away from home for end to 3 months when we spoke with them before this week from a tour stop in Newfoundland.

As caught on television by Inner City Campaign and put online here, Kohona told Rajapaksa, about Ban, "He has already seen the picture we sent him."

This would look to relate to the pro-Rajapaksa government video "Lies Agreed To," itself a purported rebuttal of the Channel 4 documentary "Killing Fields of Sri Lanka."

Along with depicting Rajapaksa government war crimes, including a word of the White Flag murders involving Palitha Kohona and Ban`s chief of staff Vijay Nambiar, "Killing Fields" criticizes the UN`s and Ban`s performance.

But Ban`s spokesman Martin Nesirky had repeatedly told Inner City Press that Ban has yet not watch Killing Fields, despite long ago being granted a DVD of the documentary.

On September 22, Nesirky`s office told Inner City Press, that the "Secretary-General has yet to see the documentary "Killing Fields of Sri Lanka", but has been thoroughly briefed on the film`s contents." Now Kohona says Ban "has already seen the picture we sent him" - the rebuttal.

Similarly, as reported by Inner City Press, decisions to not show Killing Fields within the UN but to screen "Lies Agreed To" along with Kohona and his Deputy Shavendra Silva, were taken unilaterally by Giampaolo Pioli who accepting money from Kohona, for property.

The UN briefing room, and apparently Ban Ki-moon himself, saw the government`s rebuttal without seeing the underlying documentary movie about Rajapaksa - and perhaps Nambiar`s - war crimes. Watch this YouTube video, and this site.

Footnotes on footage:How was this video filmed, and what will the UN say about it? After the initial photo op, cameramen are usually shepherded off the North Lawn building`s third floor.

But this time, the Sri Lankan national UN Security officer seen directly behind Rajapaksa in the footage arranged for the 3 other photographers, all Sri Lankan, to rest up at the entrance to Ban`s office. Inner City Press stayed as well.

When ten minutes later the meeting ended, Ban escorted Rajapaksa, Kohona, Peiris et al. to the elevator, and Inner City Press filmed. There Kohona said the above to Rajapaksa, about Ban, well out of the hearing of Ban`s spokesman, Martin Nesirky, who stopped Ban on his way back in to the waiting Montenegro delegation and asked him questions. Blaming Video Games for Ferocity is Racist and Ignorant

In brightness of the tragical events in Oslo and Utya, information was observed that Anders Behring Breivik, the man responsible for the shootings in Utya,used both Creation of Warcraft and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 as a "breeding base" of sorts. Whether this did lead to Breivik`s violent tendencies is nevertheless under review, but according to clinical psychologist Christopher Ferguson, a specialist on videogame violence at Texas A&M University, it`s not the media that`s the cause. "I know it`s a little controversial to say, but there`s a certain character of racism in set with these killings," he said in an audience with Forbes.

"When shootings happen in an interior city in minority-populated schools, video games are never brought up. But when these things pass in white majority schools and in the suburbs, people start to freak out and video games are inevitably blamed.I mean that theres a certain factor of racism or ignorance here."

We can`t look to recall when was the final time Grand Theft Auto was blamed for a car-robbery-gone-wrong in the poorer districts of cities. It was only just another crime in the poor neighborhood. Ferguson continued on that killings of Oslo`s scale are passing to keep occuring, and there`s nothing anyone can do to keep them. They strike randomly, they strike powerfully, but they don`t move very often. When they do happen though, the price is high. "People actually need to live what sort of boogeyman can we hang this on and video games are nevertheless the top choice when it comes to any case of tragedy," said Ferguson.

It`s all a count of reality: when do we get the argument between reality, and virtual reality? The model of your character killing somebody in a game can well be misinterpreted (or correctly interpreted?) as an interior need for dispatch and violence. However, even the U.S. Supreme Court has found that there is no scientific ground for such an argument. Surely this means the harassment will stop, right?

Wrong, says Ferguson. There`s always passing to be somebody willing to pin-the-tail-on-the-videogame. "There are groups out there who are leaving to blame video games on everything," he said. "Theyre like ambulance chasers, really. I believe its irresponsible and thoughtless to try to produce political gain off of somebody elses tragedy, but theyre leaving to do it. Thats what they do. But even those groups have been much quieter with the Oslo tragedy."

Another big shooting that has oft been affiliated with video games is the Columbine tragedy of 1999. On April 20th, two high school students killed 12 students and one faculty member in their school in Colorado state before committing suicide. Later reports declared that both students were fans of Doom and Wolfenstein 3D, which were popular FPS games back in the day.

While people were ready to condemn both games at the time, Ferguson states that this was simply because people wanted something to blame. "What was so scary about Columbine was that it could happen anywhere, even in a seemingly safe suburban high school," he explained. "People wanted something to pick and video games became the target. And they wanted to just regulate games away."

It`s almost like to people`s "You can`t see me, I can`t see you" or "Out of view out of mind" mentality. Making games go away makes the origin of many of these problems go away. Therefore, they won`t happen anymore. The Virginia Tech tragedy of 2007 proved all of this wrong. On April 16th, one lone gunman, Seung-Hui Cho, killed 32 people and wounded 25 others before turning the gun on himself.

Strangely enough, Cho was no fan of video games. Where does that allow all the thumb pointing? Ferguson said that this was a suit to shew that these shootings happen randomly and that games are not the culprit. "One thing weve learned from research is that around 95 percent of young boys have played a violent tv game," said Ferguson. "That becomes a crafty thing when these mass homicides occur and the shot is a new male. The odds are hes played violent video games.

"Linking the acting of violent video games to a mass homicide when the culprit is a new male is like blaming the kill on the fact that he was wearing sneakers. The basal value of that behavior is so green that it has no predictive value whatsoever."

The argument will yet remain. Do video games cause violence, or do they not? Do we need to secretly pull the spark on a gun, or do we only go out our fantasies in a virtual environment? One thing is certain: we all accept the power to get a choice, and we all must have for the consequences of that choice.

critically acclaimed new art photography show, "American ReConstruction" at the Winkleman Gallery in Chelsea) and Leah Oates (founder of Station Independent Projects, which is a Brooklyn-based freelance curatorial business that organizes exhibitions and events with a stress on artist advocacy and promotion) curated the accumulation of seven chomogenic prints.

Ruben will be showcasing this work, along with various other images at the Art Hamptons Art Fair, through Finch & Ada, from July 7th -10th, 2011.Ruben is an engaged photographer, architect, curator, blogger, and counsel for photographers and photography, and I feel favorable to address him a friend.

But as image titles for Ruben Natal San-Miguel's portfolio Urban Water: Inner Child, they present the feelings of a distinctly urban personal perspective on living in New York City.



Like the photos in Helen Levitt's 1965 iconic photobook, "A Way of Seeing" this portfolio too achieves that rare balance of thought without being sentimental, while always maintaining an objective distance. The casual observer of these photos is almost dazzled by their poetry, and can easily overlook the harsher realities of inner city urban life masked by the surface warmth and joy. Here individuals play in water from sprinklers to fire hydrants and by doing so slow down for only a bit and become carefree.



In Natal San-Miguel's images people smile, leap and rollick in the urine to cool down and to experience enjoyment. In many images there is a tone of intense emotion, joyful color and the exploration of how sun reflects on the form in urine at different times of the day. Artists dating back to the nineteenth century Impressionist movement derived from Claude Monet`s painting Impression, Sunrise, have long focused their artistic eye on capturing the always changing colours of urine in light.



Now, in the 21st century world, Natal San-Miguel continues this custom with the use of silhouettes and shade to create magical worlds where water ripples with light underneath changing colors of down to alternating shades of chicken and green due to the sentence of day. Many of these photographs exude an emotion of intense happiness and establish a different position of the urban jungle, one that is pleasurable, where people relate positively with one another and where straightforward items such as a fire hydrant can be an eternal reservoir of community amusement. Natal San-Miguel`s work appeals to our inner child, one that finds beauty and joy in a city environment of hot summer sun and the shimmering water`s light.









Ruben journeys all-around the streets of New York City - trekking his region of Harlem or pass the roll of downtown sidewalks - finding the language and signs of therapeutic and inspiration to go forward as a survivor of the attacks on September 11, 2001. As we fast approaching the 10-year anniversary, Ruben has captured the content of "HOPE" tattooed on one of many passengers riding the ferry, steering a class about the locating of the fatal attacks and in the space is the Statue of Liberty, the iconic symbol of exemption and independence. This imagery taken by Ruben is a quintessential moment for anyone who has faced a trauma. This is a monitor that satisfaction is all round us and can be delivered even when we are not searching. For the preceding 8 years during the summer months, Ruben has traveled by bicycle throughout Upper Manhattan camera in hand in hunt of what is similar to be in NYC areas that, till most recently and for many prior many decades, had been neglected by the administration and about of society. This is not the "Sex and The City" Manhattan that most people clamor and aim for.Ruben has been able to find, not merely a vivacious and colorful vision of that other Manhattan but, also a happy, endearing and very meaningful life example of what is like when the human life and communities make the best of others may considered to be so little.
