LIVING WATERS - By LeAnn: Inner City Mission Journal Moments .

There are moments when I simply need to adopt a sidekick or sister in the gospels and separate them that we can help fulfill all their needs. However, the welfare plan of the Almighty doesn't work that way. There are so many things to measure and do before help can be received. I suppose you could say there is about red tape. At least the red tape isn't quite as taxing as the Government's.

One of the things that they can get quickly is food.and other necessities. Our aim in running with people is to assist them set goals to go self reliant.
There are many poor and needy families in our assigned area. At this time we take 8 families that we are running with. There are a sort of needs such as: medical, dental, visioncare, mental concerns, rent, utilities, home cleaning, transportation, literacy, and the big one of finding employment. Today's economic concerns make finding a job even harder. However, our church does have great resources in this area.Temporal needs such as food, clothing and furniture are usable as needed. To go self-reliant is the goal; and it does require time. One of the biggest obstacles is agency. Many of thethese brothers and sisters needhelp but don't want to play for it.They actually don't need to change. Some of the government programs do not ask that they make for what they get. The church expects the people receiving help to do some process for what they get if they are able do so. They can be assigned to serve with cleaning a building or taking charge of the landscaping. There are also volunteer jobs that they can be assigned to do. Of form there are many of them that make health problems and are ineffective to work. All are encouraged to attend their Sabbath Day meetings, and have other spiritual commitments. All of their circumstances are taken into consideration during the rating of their needs.
This week has been a damn one. I get one sister thatI am working with that has needed medical care. The Bishop wanted her to see a Neurology Specialist. She has not recovered substantially from a head concussion that occurred in February. She had departed to free Clinic and received immediate care after the light but no follow-up care. She was told at that time it would have a twelvemonth earlier she could get into see a Neurologist. I knew that she would demand a referral for this sort of physician visit. I was capable to get an OK for a call to a Nurse Practitioner in one of the clinics that would see her for a small co-pay. I took her to the date on Tuesday. She had me get into the way with her when she saw the Nurse Practitioner. At the end of the call the Nurse ordered her to have Physical Therapy for her neck and back pain. She also located in a requestfor a Neurology specialist visit. She too said it could get up to a class to get an engagement with a neurologist. I have been praying for her to be capable to see a specialist soon. This sister has part sentence work at this time and has to continue working. She needs full time work but I have trust that her health can improve first. She has headaches 3 to4 times a week along with vertigo and other symptoms. I myself know how severe headaches feel. It is difficult to go when you are in pain.
This sister called me Wednesday night to assure me that she had received an assignment to see a Neurologist who had a cancellation. This was an answer to my prayers. I took her Thursday to see the physician and she has what I already suspected; "Post Concussion Syndrome." The Doctor ordered her to cause hearing and balance therapy for her dizziness along with physical therapy. She has a return visit in 4 weeks.
Miracles do happen, I am a viewer to that. I can prove that the Lord is watching over these sweet humble people.
Meanwhile, my husband is functional with an elder brother that can not understand or write. He needs a job; but has a difficult time because of this handicap. We are hoping to get somebody in the guard to tutor him in interpretation and writing.
We are also assigned to a pair that were recently released from prison. They too have children. This is a really sad case. Many of those who are released from Prison have no money, no where to go, and whip of all few opportunities to be hired due to their record. This is leaving to be a dispute for us.
The one brother that I wrote about last week that is animation in a soon to be condemned trailer has decided that he will have help to get his trailer cleaned up and fixed. Mind you, this is 10 x 25 ft. trailer that is likely some 25 plus years old. The trailer needs a lot of work. The first job will be to observe the level bottom. When ever there is droppings on the floor; he has been putting down a stratum of paper over it. According to his neighbour he has a lot of little critters of several names that I don't need to mention living among the newspapers. It will probably get an environmental or pest control team to take charge of all of this. I feel sad that he has lived in this for so many years. I trust we can aid him in making some changes in his life.
We attempted to see a baby that lives by herself and just sits in a recliner chair all day and can only operate as far as a potty chair which is located adjacent to her. She has meals on wheels and they put her food within range for the day. She has severe diabetes and has poor circulation in her legs. The shin on the lower half of her legs is reddish blue in colour which is not a good sign. She needs to be set in a nursing home; but at this show she refuses to do so. We want to assist her see that this is the best thing for her. We will help getting her house to meet together and discuss her options. It is really scary thinking of her life by herself and not being able to pass at all.
We are also working with two single mother's that we desire to offer some way for them to better their living standards and get just enough jobs to keep their families. There is help available for them to get more education while assisting them with daycare and other needs.
This ward could use more servicemissionaries so we are praying for that. There is only so much work tobe done in helping these beloved brothers and sisters. We are learning and already loving the individuals that have been assigned to us. We are "putting our shoulders to the pedal" and moving along.
Here is an update on our nephew Callahan. He had surgery and is moving a digit and give a small bit and can bang his left leg. These are positive signs. He was transferred to a rehab unit yesterday. Thanks to all of you that t prayed for him.
