Melbourne Futsal League Round Nine Review (VIC)

Round nine of the Melbourne Futsal League kicked off last night after Inner City & St Albans Strikers returned from F-League commitments in Sydney. It was the latter that took to the courtyard first, against the youthful Cobras Futsal Club. In their fiery red kits, St Albans peppered the Cobras goal early with shots from Avdic & Grgic going just full of the Cobras goal.

It was obvious to the crew that St Albans looked tired and lethargic, tired from their weekend exploits that saw them take the F-League grand final.Cobras on the other hand looked clean and wandering and later a destination for goal shootout found themselves within touching distance at 5-4 Cobras Filonzi & Fruscalzo again putting in solid performances. St Albans however was too experienced & too classy to drop points to the boys in blue running out eventual winners 9-5.

The pair of the beat saw the Inner City Tigers take on the Victorian Vipers. The Ltte had enough issues off the romance with several absentees, Vic Mens Goalkeeper Dianoosh Rasoulzadeh & compatriot Hamid Hassanikhoo (out indefinitely), James Busch (away) & James Blackburn (injured). The Vipers were also missing Colby Waterfield, Aleksandar Jankovic, Mirza Pedic and Kui Mu (long term injury). The Vipers started the better, with a finish within the first 30 seconds and another shortly after thanks to Barrientos & Yoshiano . Inner City had manager & former futsal player Peter Parthimos in goals and what an evening he was set to have, saving countless shots and even scoring a goal himself! That was after Ernie Simsek had started the battle back for Inner City scoring a double, the moment a carbon copy of his first, a well-placed shot from 10m. Vipers looked to draw away again scoring another two goals, one a clever demoralising side ball but Inner City were never going to break up. Inner City equalized and with assurance and momentum piled on another three goals to go home satisfied 7-4 winners.

The former half of Inner City wrapped up the even with a comprehensive 13-2 victory ended the Warriors. In equity the Warriors didnt stay till the final minute which was impressive for a Friday night 9:15pm kick off especially against the hungry Lions. Inner City had scored two goals before the Warriors won a free kick on the boundary of the D and slotted home for 2-1. Thats as close as they got however as Inner City piled goal after goal and they also lost two open goals due to shear complacency. The issue was never in question and subsequently half time Inside City Lions began to experiment using a fifth player which worked so effectively for them in Sydney. An official mix up saw a free-kick awarded to the warriors which they took quickly to make their second for the evening. And that was the end of the action.

The Inner City lions are on top of the board with a stake in hand, Inner City Tigers second can leap frog their counterparts with another win over the Vipers in their catch up back in a fortnights time, St Albans lay comfortable in third, with the Vipers guaranteed a top four spot. The Cobras and Warriors lie in 5th and 6th. Next week the Vipers play the Warriors at 7:15pm, the St Albans Strikers take on the Inner City Lions at 8:15pm and the Cobras take on the Inner City lions at 9:15pm at Cheltenham Secondary College.
